Edmonton module yard steps up for Stollery Week

August 2016
Through the generosity of our employees, our Edmonton Module Yard team donated $25,000 to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation during this year’s Stollery Week. Pat Lavin, director of modules, made the donation live on The Bear’s radio show.

This donation will pay for one of 10 non-invasive breathing machines for babies at the Stollery. This type of respiratory support uses nasal prongs or a mask to help babies breathe, preventing the need for intubation in many cases. These machines will help moms to start breastfeeding earlier, allow both parents skin-to-skin contact without worrying about dislodging a breathing tube, and reduce the risk of infection and the development of chronic lung disease.

Over the past ten years, our mod yard team has raised a total of $120,000 for the much loved children’s charity. We couldn’t be more proud of our crew - way to go team!

Edmonton module yard use their skills to support local children’s charity

July 2016

WorleyParsonsCord’s Edmonton module yard are longtime supporters of The Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. Each year they host fundraising events to raise vital funds for the local organization. This year, Pat Lavin, module yard director had something different in mind, he wanted the yard’s team to use their talent to build something monumental for the much-loved children’s charity.

“About two years ago we asked Stollery President & CEO Mike House if there was something we could build for the Stollery,” Pat recalled. “After some consideration, he told us they would really like a float that they could use as a promotional tool for events across Alberta.” At last year’s annual Stollery Children’s Foundation Radiothon, on behalf of WorleyParsonsCord Pat committed to building a Stollery Float.

The WorleyParsonsCord Edmonton module yard team quickly began working with the Stollery on the concept and design while contacting suppliers for support. Myshak, City Lumber and  Norpoint all stepped up to help out too.

The float made its maiden voyage at the Edmonton K-days parade on July 22, 2016.

This year marks the fourth year that employees from WorleyParsonsCord and other WorleyParsons locations in Edmonton have supported the Boys & Girls Club Big Brothers Big Sisters program in the Edmonton area.

Our employees are proud to volunteer as mentors under the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. After a successful first year in 2009, the in-house pilot mentorship program was made permanent. It brings 'Littles' to their mentors' workplace. 'Littles' are bussed to WorleyParsonsCord offices where they connect with their partnered 'Bigs.' This gives volunteers more time and flexibility to connect and mentor their younger counterparts. United Way has featured our role in this initiative in its WE magazine.
